Random

So often people often remarked that winding crowns on their rolex watches are not aligned at 12 o'clock position.....

All along I knew the position is random cos one cannot direct when the screw threads meet exactly....

Coincidentally there was such a random moment this morning: TADA...!!!!

But the next time I unscrew the crown, there's no guarantee it will be the same again....

the in-house factor....

someone posted a question in a watch forum: comparing the rolex daytona against the vacheron constantin overseas chronograph..... and wanted to know which is the better watch...

well.... for me, i'll pick the one with the in-house movement which is, the rolex daytona..... and what's more the daytona is cheaper ... and way better looking.....

what an irony, the watch with the in-house movement costs less..!!??

a chunk of rolex platinum....

assuming one has a liking for the less common ....

and he would probably eliminate steel and gold from his choices of material for his timepiece.....

i think this means that platinum could emerge as one of his hallowed picks....

no one comes close to rolex when we are talking about the sheer numbers of platinum watches being made and for S$69,937, you can choose the rolex day-date II in platinum and ice-blue dial (2nd from left in the pic)....

certainly it makes a cool timepiece for a towkay (boss in hokkien dialect)..... best for making business talk ..... and not only at the golf course but also any coffee joints.....

tag red....is rolex chronometer......

when i was a little boy, i yearned to have one of this plastic tag .... which i wanted as a TOY TOY....

it's only when i got to know more about rolex watches that i realised each rolex chronometer comes with a plastic red seal.........

so remember to pick yours up from the authorised dealer when you purchase your new rolex chronometer timpiece.....

you may give it to your children if they too wished for one as their TOY TOY ...haha

also very important is the green swimpruf tag........... which is even more precious than the red tag....

why so?

well the red tag is a generic item...... and all red tags are the same........

but for every rolex watch, the green tag comes along with a sticker which displays the model number, serial number and bracelet number....... so every rolex watch has a unique green tag/sticker.....

do ensure you are getting the correct tag by comparing the watch serial number and the warranty card....

sometimes the dealer might make a mistake...... so pls check....

oldie boxes.....

after these recent years of new boxes, can anyone still remember the previous range of rolex boxes...???

this picture is dedicated to all rolex fans..... new and old alike....

cheers....

the old and the new gmt master II.......

before we all forget the colourful instruction booklets we used to get...... let's have a comparison of the covers between the old and the new.....

list or premium?... for the milgauss GV....

for almost every item you buy in singapore, the government just smiles on the sidelines as they collect the big monies from the GST charged...... so in this case, where the list price for the rolex milgauss 116400GV is S$9,012, i noticed that the government is pocketing $589.57....... HHMMMMMMM

i'd heard of people who paid above S$20,000 for a milgauss GV, good gracious!! .... and recently i also saw a tourist who bought one for S$10,500 from an AD........

on my last visit to ADs in the chinatown area, they told me the selling price is around S$9,500.... which is quite reasonable compared to the huge premiums they used to ask for.....

so if you can wait, getting one at list price no longer is impossible........

when is too much really too much..??

with the opening of new shopping malls come the following of new watch retail stores and boutiques.....

and after soaking in the euphoria of the "newness" of these well-lit but otherwise mostly soul-less places, have we observed the over-supply of watch retail outlets???...... is there a point of saturation? or can the locals and tourists support even more...??? i have no answers to that....

and what happens to the "older" malls.... and their watch retail outlets........??? fold or continue ...??

for example, on a usual retail weekend the omega boutique at raffles city shopping centre (which is operated by sincere) is hardly the busiest place ...... so will the omega boutique at ion orchard fare any better when the "newness" is gone..???

or have you seen the number of visitors and customers at the blancpain and breguet boutiques at raffles hotel arcade..???? i wouldnt describe the situation as miserable but if you are there, just take a look for yourself......

in the long run, i'll be very interested to see how spanking new mono-brand boutiques at ion orchard will do......

list price for rolex submariner 116613

even though the newly launched rolex submariner in gold and stainless steel has yet to arrive in singapore ....... it's good to know that the list price is S$14,256.... only slightly higher than the rolex gmt master 2 116713 (S$14,171)....

a likely scenario is the first few pieces might be selling at a small premium or very close to list price...... it's just my gut sense.... cos the AD that i talked to did not wanna commit ...

we'll see...

the GV and rolex

can anyone remember the hype and excitment when the milgauss was launched a couple of years ago..???

can anyone remember how much the first few pieces was sold for in singapore...??? as far as i can remember, figures back then was about S$20,000 .........

recently i saw a GV being sold at S$10,500 at an AD........ although this is about S$1,500 more than the list price, the selling prices are far more reasonable then before.....

can anyone get one at list price? i think it could be done........

it's a matter of timing...

in life, we all need to make choices....

many a time, our choices are dictated by many factors.... and one of those is a matter of timing...... how so you may ask....

well, recently a colleague wants to buy a new rolex submariner 16610lv..... the iconic green bezel diving watch...... and guess what, my favourite store is out of stock.....

i remember a few months ago, supply was not only plentiful but it also was offered with a never-heard-of discount....

but now? not only no stock and perhaps even no discount.....

so much about choosing the right moment......

a rolex guarantee.....

on many occasions i have read about and heard of ppl who are overly suspicious......

they who speculate that rolex, and perhaps many other swiss watches, are made elsewhere e.g. china (why do china come to mind in the first instance?), and then boxed up in switzerland........

so what is the truth? ... who do we believe in? ...... the manufacturers or the rumour-mongers.....??

so let us read up the rolex guarantee, which is a green little booklet......

most importantly, read the last paragraph...........

"Rolex SA certifies that this watch has been entirely manufactured in Switzerland."

if this is not sufficient for you, nothing else will...................

another rolex gift....

a couple of years ago, my regular contact at one AD gave me this.............

this year, i receive another one......... although i depend on my 838 pro as my personal diary, it's still great to get this...... which happened a few weeks ago......

some ppl are selling this for a profit......... but in a free market, why not.......

as for me, i'd rather keep as a momento.........

old and new

when the new series of 1167** rolex gmt master 2 were launched, the new booklet was not ready...... which explained why many customers received the one with the colourful cover.... ADs were still giving out the old booklet on the left............

it was until late z series that the new booklet (in green) was issued to the retailers......

to make my collection complete, i asked for a copy of the new......

is there a v serial sea-dweller 16600?

is there or is there not one...??? some ppl said no........ they were so sure about it........... "no no no"...... they said since the 16600 was discontinued, m serial is the last of the last............

one thing i learnt in life is never to be so cock sure........... one cannot simply know everything on earth......... keep our eyes and ears open, no matter what........

well for pictorial evidence, i saw this:

although there were people who believed this picture was photoshopped, what do u think?

and over at timezone.com, CharlesN mentioned that a last batch of v serial 16600 will be delivered to the UK.... seems to be for only the UK......

so will there be or not??? judge for youself.....

what's da size...???

one question: did you get the right box for your rolex watch??

well for most rolex watches (excluding the super jewelled versions), the boxes come in 3 sizes.... small medium large.............

usually, stainless steel watches come with a small box......... two-tone (i.e. half gold) watches in the medium box and gold watches the big one......... pls note i wrote "usually" .......

exceptions that i know of: sea-dweller 16600 came with a medium box and sea-dweller deepsea 116660 comes with a big box......

as to why......  sorry, i have no idea at all...........
