a tough bar ....

why do most watches come with spring bars...??? are they cheaper to use or are the manufactures reluctant to change.......

spring bars present a real headache when owners wish to remove or change the bracelet/strap... !! especially if one did not use a special tool....... try using a toothpick or thin pen-knife and you will surely curse and swear....and very often one will knick or scratch either the case or bracelet or worse still, BOTH !!.....

even technicians at the service centre are not spared the problem....... of course we can reduce the likelihood by taping the case, bracelet and screwdriver tip with masking tape....... but why should we have to do this in the first place.....

anyway i prefer screws...... and of course the various quick-change system introduced by panerai, JLC, IWC.....

really hope to see these being implemented across the entire range..... and also more manufactures to pioneer their own unique system...

when is too much really too much..??

with the opening of new shopping malls come the following of new watch retail stores and boutiques.....

and after soaking in the euphoria of the "newness" of these well-lit but otherwise mostly soul-less places, have we observed the over-supply of watch retail outlets???...... is there a point of saturation? or can the locals and tourists support even more...??? i have no answers to that....

and what happens to the "older" malls.... and their watch retail outlets........??? fold or continue ...??

for example, on a usual retail weekend the omega boutique at raffles city shopping centre (which is operated by sincere) is hardly the busiest place ...... so will the omega boutique at ion orchard fare any better when the "newness" is gone..???

or have you seen the number of visitors and customers at the blancpain and breguet boutiques at raffles hotel arcade..???? i wouldnt describe the situation as miserable but if you are there, just take a look for yourself......

in the long run, i'll be very interested to see how spanking new mono-brand boutiques at ion orchard will do......

so obvious that the big ign is a slow seller and now i dun understand why iwc is launching a big ign chronograph.....

are they trying to commit suicide...???

since the real stuff is out........... we can all judge between the old and the new range of IWC aquatimer diving watches......

most noteworthy is the new rotating bezel......... it's now an external device...... and i think most IWC fans are quite horrified with this change.....

it might just attract new fans to the range........... probably......

as always , we all need time to adjust to changes......

my gut feel? it all looks like that tag heuer will do to their diving watches.......... it's becoming less of IWC......... the feel is gone.....

an IWC for the sea

managed to see a 2500 pcs LE IWC aquatimer costeau chronograph in the AD's display case............

with the downturn in the whole wide world, demand for luxury watches does take a hit i guess.....

so if u like this 2007 costeau diving chronograph, get it now..........

especially as the 08 version is nowhere as nice...

a tough case......

this is made for the rough guys (and gals too) out there. if u want a timepiece that is TOUGH, DARK and STYLISH, look no further......

zirconium oxide, commonly known as ceramic, is as TOUGH as you can get....... much harder than gold, platinum and steel, it is made to lasttttttttttttttttt......

and if you are often pissed by how easy your steel watch(es) get all scratched up, you will love the IWC topgun chronograph!



enlarged to 44 mm, it is a very handsome watch with a chronograph function..........what's more there are day and date indicators for the forgetful, which is so useful when u need to tear out the flaps from the parking coupons..........

just in case u overshot the timing, you can also rely on the chronograph to record the elapsed seconds and minutes.....



unfortunately the buckle is not made of ceramic............... what a pity



before the onset of the financial tsunami, this piece was quite elusive.......... lately i've seen them appearing in dealers' shelves ....... while the list price is at S$11,700, visiotime is offering a new piece at below list price.....

IWC has set themselves such a high standard that they cant possibly upstage the topgun ceramic doppel chronograph .........


now this one version.... released in the national colours of the german football team........ is much tamer......

and i think far less popular than the ceramic piece....

dress up

usually i dun pay attention to dress watches........... but recently due to some factors, am getting abit interested in the following 2 choices.......... i.e. iwc portuguese automatic 7 days PR....

between the 2, i prefer the white dial............. the watch looks good in pictures and looks better in real life..... very elegant in design and the execution....... however pls note the blue leather strap is actually not so BLUE..... it's very dark navy in colour....

easy to sum everything up in this manner...

likes:
in-house movement
7 days power reserve
deployment buckle
beautiful genuine leather strap
see-through back
42 mm case (quite big for a dress watch)

dislikes:
slow beat movement 21,600 vph (one probably wont notice bcos of the small seconds hand)
price (list for S$17,400 for the SS model)

zidane....????

even if one is an ardent fan of zinedin zidane..... he may not buy this......




i like the strap.... but the rest of the watch is so so.....



as for the caseback engraving, there's no resemblance to zidane at all.............. :)

haha for fathers and sons..... what is IWC thinking of.......? a new marketing strategy perhaps...?? .... i think most pairs would end up with husbands and wives, men and women........

am not a fan of silver dials ..... i prefer the big pilot in black dial..... :)
