not a torch....

it's a well known fact that luminova in modern watches glow intensively when exposed to the sun .......

what is not commonly known is that the intensity decreases rapidly indoors........ very very rapidly indeed..... to those ppl who expect the watch to lume for HOURS, well you gonna be disappointed.....

however, the lume will still be there over a period of time......... and that is obvious in dark surroundings (i.e. little ambient light).......

TAG the right direction......

i saw these last week during my visit to an AD........ and they didnt catch my attention at all ..... these pictures taken by Kong certainly did though....

maybe it's the lighting.... or it could be the close-ups.....

no matter what, i consider these better-looking tags............. even if you never like cyclops on a watch crystal, the rest of the touches are still a right step ahead....

unlike most that are just taking up space in the display shelves, this range has a match-winning look...... especially the larger numerals which are set on a ribbed bezel, a cool touch when one realises that rubber, a relatively low-cost material, was used to create contrast and detail....

powering the watch is a ETA-clone, renamed as calibre 5 by tag........... you can certainly expect a work-house performance from this commoner from the stable of ETA.....

it's a matter of timing...

in life, we all need to make choices.... 

many a time, our choices are dictated by many factors.... and one of those is a matter of timing...... how so you may ask....

well, recently a colleague wants to buy a new rolex submariner 16610lv..... the iconic green bezel diving watch...... and guess what, my favourite store is out of stock.....

i remember a few months ago, supply was not only plentiful but it also was offered with a never-heard-of discount....

but now? not only no stock and perhaps even no discount.....

so much about choosing the right moment...... 

more tudor hydro.....

by far the best pictures of the new tudor hydro is from watchquote.com................ now we can really appreciate this new introduction of a monster diving watch...... especially feaatures like the massive crown protector, cool new bezel, over-sized hour markers, combo bracelet of ceramic and steel....

one comment on the HEV (helium escape valve) though.... 

for so many years, the HEV on the sea-dweller was flush with the watch case..... is there any good reason for this version on the tudor? 

one may be very tempted to depress it................. for it looks like HOT eject button haha

instead of trying to make their designs more appealing, someone decided to make a u-turn....

in the drive to make more eye-catching watches, they have made a move to embrace tackiness.....

polarised IWC....

since the real stuff is out........... we can all judge between the old and the new range of IWC aquatimer diving watches......

most noteworthy is the new rotating bezel......... it's now an external device...... and i think most IWC fans are quite horrified with this change.....

it might just attract new fans to the range........... probably......

as always , we all need time to adjust to changes......

my gut feel? it all looks like that tag heuer will do to their diving watches.......... it's becoming less of IWC......... the feel is gone.....

blancpain has done it again.......... after the regular model, we have seen the other versions in black and white.....

so what else....?? it's blue for the SIHH 2009.........

that's far from being creative or innovative............. in fact it smacks of laziness.....

between the 2, i prefer the all black version............ 

based on what they have in recent years, i think this is a good effort from jeanrichard................ 

by convention, the hour hand should always be larger and wider than the minute hand...... and they have applied this rule according to the "rule book".......
