hear through

i am beginning to hear things and more.....

but i cant pinpoint the source....

is it because of the

a. DAC improving with time

b. new diffusor panels on the ceiling

c. Acrolink D5000 XLR cables

d. new arrangement of 3 shunmook mpingo discs on the CD transport

even though i can nail it down, i am fine.....

and i am not complaining since everything sounds cool and good.....

expensive sausage....

by now acoustic revive audio accessories are tested and proven by to be effective in making music systems sound better.... even though not everyone understands how and why they work, it no longer matters ..... so long it works we are all satisfied......

the sausage-looking RAS-14 is their latest product for their legion of fans...... however, the price alone might deter many from even asking about it.....

i am one of these people ..... for i fear that i cant hold back after hearing its effects........

better stay away while i can .......

new goal-post...

i used to think that i would never spend more than $500 on a pair of interconnect cables  .....

not that they do not make a difference but because something in my head told me so.....

well well, that was all in the past for i have broken my self-imposed limit quite awhile ago when i switched to acrolink 6N-S3000 speaker cables......

it was followed by the 6N-PC6100 power cord..... and now 7N-A2070 interconnect cables......

i can only say these are truly exceptional audio cables........ together they have brought me closer to the music, which is the most important isn't it...?

one may achieve sparkling highs, thumping lows or magical mids but if the audio system cannot communicate emotionally, then what's the point of having one .......

If you purchase the tape instead of the bigger sheets, you will get 5 metres of it.....

Since it's quite of lot of tape to go about you may wish to share with some friends to spread out the cost.....

Remember: do it slowly 1 at a time.....

Maybe I wasn't able to tell the actual difference with the EMI tape on the car ECU but it was surely not subtle when applied on audio components.....!!!!!

My very first piece was for the aircon fan unit in the room..... Errr seems quieter.... So so I thought....

2nd piece was on the little power supply for the RR-77..... WOWWW!!! This is no joke huh...???!!!!

There and then I pasted little pieces on the rear of the CD transport, starhub antenna box and rooftop antenna box (unused but may have stray signals anyway)....

The most effective way however is to paste the sticker on the inner panels but I am too lazy to dismantle everything.... So for the preamplifier, DAC & power amplifiers I simply cut a few sheets and place them as near as possible to the power transformers.....

Be aware that too much of a good thing is always too much.... Never never overdo it..... So I took care to introduce the EMI sticker incrementally by cutting each piece the size of a 5-cent coin....

Errrr I felt a difference or did I ...????

The engine seems to be quieter and more eager to pull than before.....

Maybe it's all just placebo.... Perhaps......

Everyone knows that EMI is bad..... But bcos we rely so much on electricity we have no choice but to bear with these electro and magnetic nasties.....

There are however many ways to deal with it.... From zero cents to many dollars of ways...

After checking out the competition, maybe I'll try this.....

Most importantly I will stick some on the car ECU.....

Small but big 2....

Instead of the supplied vibration damping sheet, I followed one of the proven methods and put on a piece of AR QR-8.....

It seems to be another small step ahead.....

As usual I was sceptical....

How good can this little duralumin plug be? I'd read about it from most of the online sources and all have been positive and encouraging ..... Can it really be that good?

Furthermore it's "quite" expensive for such a plain little thing..... This is surely another dun-tell-your-wife-how-much audio accessory.....

After putting it into the unused r1 outlet, I have to realign my sights and expectations ....

The effects are not subtle at all.... Hmmmmmm

it's always better to take things one step at a time especially when it comes to upgrades and improvements...... let it be your audio system, car and others......

maybe i was too anxious and too excited over the power enhancements...... so when i upgraded to a acrolink 6100 and oyaide wall base and plate in a span of 2 days, it was tough for me to discern which was doing what ....

but then, the jump in performance is kinda HUGE....

and seriously i am not complaining at all haha......

in between i found that someone had shifted my acoustic revive room conditioner... and after i placed it correctly, the full spectrum of magic came back.....

if you follow my audio journey regularly, you are no stranger to my previous set-up, namely the oyaide r1 outlet and a $25 aluminium wall plate........

joining the r1 from the wall to oyaide mtb-6 was an acrolink 4030 with 004 plugs..... which are just the normal stuff for a budget conscious audiophile.....

this went along for quite some time until i became curious about the oyaide WPC-Z base and wall plate....

the oyaide product is certainly jewellery-grade: superbly engineered for the audio enthusiast..... but dun ever let your wife know how much this piece of aluminium costs; i think she will be very annoyed ....!!

all along, matching the r1 with a piece of MIC wall plate wasnt my kind of match-made-in-heaven but then i had no choice.........

i wanna install a stout wall base but WPC-Z cannot fit onto a UK size 2 outlet AC box but what can i do???

mount a US size box ...?? i can do that but the in-wall wiring may not be long enough to reach the r1...... in addition i am reluctant to mess with the decor and those US outlets one can buy are quite bad when it comes to aesthetics...

unable to think of a simple and effective solution, i decided to KIV the idea until .... until i decided i really wanna do it......

fast forward to 2nd Oct 2010...... as i was sitting in a couch at x audio, pieces of the puzzle came to me ...... and as i was busy explaining my idea to ryan and swee, i became excited that it can be done.....!!! FINALLY!!!!!

so what do you need....????

firstly you'll need a $25 piece of wall plate as shown below........

after which you have to get a metal workshop to make a larger cut-out to fit the r1....

once this is done, the rest is straightforward ....... however, do note that the assembly is the reverse of what is usually done........

and please please remember to turn off the power to the room before doing anything else.....

then you will first mount this wall plate onto the wall........ followed by the oyaide base ....

important instruction: to ensure these 2 pieces are attached together tightly, 2 washers and nuts each are required...... these are used on the inside of the $25 wall plate........

dun worry about the screws as oyaide provides all of which are required......

once ok, it will look like this.....

final steps will be to connect the cables to the r1....... before you do that, you should apply your favourite contact cleaner and conditioner to all the bare wires and wire clamps....... this is very important..!!!

when the connections are tight (pls check and check and check ....!!!), you can fit the r1 into the base and tighten with 4 screws........

attach the carbon-plastic wall cover and YES..............!!!! job completed......... *AHHHHHH*

switch on the power from the circuit breaker and plug in da power cord....... for now the 6100 is my new KING......

if you have done everything right, you can sit back, relax and enjoy the music......

dun forget to congratulate yourself for a job well done....!!!

out of a sudden, i was thinking of speaker cables and also trying to recollect my experiences........

throughout the years, i have a habit of staying put with my choices and usually these cables would hang around with me for years before i decided to upgrade....... changing speaker cables is no fun and usually quite an expensive affair; one could be stuck with a pair that cannot be resold easily......

i bought my first pair in the 80s to use with my mirage m-360 loudspeakers...... it was a pair from esoteric audio bought from kingsley in plaza singapura...... cheap and cheerful was all i can remember about it. shroud in soft black insulation, it was pretty thick by modern standards.......

2nd pair was kimber 4TC (bi-wiring JM Lab Micron and Kinergetics SW, followed by polkaudio LSi-15) - bought from atlas sound

3rd pair was silver sonic T-14 (bi-wiring JM Lab Micron and Kinergetics SW, followed by polkaudio LSi-15) - bought from mail-order and effective audio

4th pair was silver sonic Q-10 in shotgun configuration (bi-wiring polkaudio LSi-15) - bought from effective audio

5th pair is acrolink S-3000 and acrolink S-1010 (bi-wiring polkaudio LSi-15) - bought from x-audio

so far i had no problems with selling kimber kables while the T-14 and Q-10 are still stored in ziplock bags........
