Frame by frame....

Damp roads + decreasing radius turn + downhill = hazard......

Now even for home ground, everyone has to exercise caution....

And when I saw the EMAS truck at the crest I knew something was wrong....

And then I saw the TP WRX....

Another EMAS truck...

More TP...

And then this....

WOW......

called into action.....

what's the use of a BIG BRAKE KIT, one may ask.....

well at legal speeds, it doesn't do much ......

in fact, the feel of cold brakes and pads kinda sucks in a way....

but when an EVO 9 jumps into your lane at not so sane speeds, the BBK WORKS as PROMISED..!!!!

WOWO...

sure it feels safe and reassuring......

I LIKE..!!

important gap

oh can you see that minute but important gap that could hold the line between life and death...????

i really need to plug this gap.......

no name....

if you are also interested in brakes, then you ought to read up on this guy's experience with no-name brakes......

different metallurgy......

before i forget, let me tell you that AP road brake calipers are made by casting.....

yeah yeah i must be kinda naive to expect that their lower end kits are using forged calipers......

so maybe i should just cast my eyes at made in taiwan and made in USA big brake kits......

eat this..!

after searching through the made in taiwan options, here's the american choice: wilwood.....

how? how? how?

go for it..???

or should i just ride through the "i want it so much" stage where all of us go through when the urge to buy is there.....

hmmmm

for a little more money and power.....

for about US$400, there's a lot of options when it comes to used brembo brake calipers......

upfront it all looks simple but as the calipers are designed to fit evo 8/9/x, a customised bracket is necessary to make the calipers work in my car.....

the cost to machine a good quality bracket will brake or break the budget haha..... at least need to set aside close to S$1000 for a set of 4 (front and rear).....

hhmmmmmm

more fun....

driving is more enjoyable nowadays....

cos during acceleration, the fun factor is being boosted by the pivot 3 drive......

and when it comes to braking, the steel braided lines allow the driver to brake later and harder ..... making it safer.....

so driving is becoming more and more fun........

stabbing on sponge...

ok finally the brake lines are ready and over the course of a good hour or two, they are finally up on the car.....

after bleeding the brake system, the pedal feel is awesome...!!.....

of cos the real test is a good stomp on the brakes when the car is on the road..... and this time, there's no doubt of what a set of good steel braided brake lines can do for your confidence and also safety....

you should seriously consider doing it.... especially for your own sake.....

side by side....

just 20 mins ago... while on the road, i saw a new volkswagen scirocco and a no-longer-new golf gti mk v, one after another....

somehow the scirocco manages to make the golf looks porky, obese and overweight.... haha....

such is the rate of progress that things we used to love no longer are beautiful as before....

==============================================

if everything goes to plan, i shd have a full set of steel braided brake lines for the car....

this evening we had to get one set of the stock rubber lines off the car for the workshop to custom make a replacement set.....

let's see if all could be done within 24 hours... haha....

only if one has the time....

some ppl do go the extra mile to make things look good..... and while i am also a sucker for good looking stuff, i am just too lazy to spend a few hours to take off the wheels and paint the calipers red.....

when money is no object, the easiest way out is to get a set of aftermarket big brake kits..... not only good in look but in performance too....

misleading you.....

let's be realistic, one cannot expect all advertisements to be 100% truthful....

and while some are geniunely informative, the rest lies between half-truths and true lies ... haha...

when the consumers are duped, most of the times we can only complain ......

but what else can we do.... ??

do a little research, find out more and verifying the "CLAIMS" are definitely the ways to reduce the likelihood of being conned......

so good luck to more and better shopping..!!

big brakes....

i was tempted many times to upgrade to a big-brake KIT....... especially when i see other cars that have them installed...... oh just like the honda accord in the picture

however made-in-japan brake kits are pretty expensive........ and i have other concerns e.g. suspension and brake lines to take care of before i could do the brakes....

hmmmm i just like the look of project mu .... as well as brembo, AP racing blah blah blah.........

big-brake KITS are cool........

brakes to kill for....

brakes for formula 1 cars are great to look at but they are no way designed for road cars.....

simply bcos they dun work too well at LOW temperatures ......

they need to be hot and toasty to be effective.........

a new standard?

the taiwanese are really getting very ATAS with their stuff .... look at the new products from STD....!

dun they look impressive...??? one can easily tell that the finishing is refined and polished.....

from the company URL, there wasnt a hint of its origin ..... but of cos with google and internet, it was confirmed that STD is taiwanese.......

too complicated.....

everything is getting too complicated for their own good when you observe what is happening with formula1....

you'd got KERS, no KERS, double-deck diffusors, new budget cap for next year, increase in minimum weight...... and all these changes.....

so every year the rules change..... that is bad......

imagine in a country the law changes every year.... or in football the rules change every season???

that can only mean one thing = CHAOS...!

rules must be transparent and be given time to phase in............ it cannot be change that quickly just to institute a revolution.......

fed up??

if you are fed up with stainless steel or cast iron brake systems, there is only one choice left.....

which is carbon ceramic brakes................. i am sure it comes with a satisfaction guarantee....

and if you need anything more powerful than this, u can be a f1 driver......

Wednesday, 1 April 2009

need brakes?

not one not two but FOUR...!!

FOUR brembo gold 4-pot brake calipers........!!!

is that enough for you?? surely for they can BITE hard.....

Tuesday, 31 March 2009

almost there....

was very tempted to install aftermarket brake lines for the car.....  when it comes to brakes, the better the merrier......

purpose?

firstly to improve the braking performance....
and secondly, just for the fun of it....

as the shop did not have the exact item for my car, we decided to see if the one for the evo fits......

alas! after a good wait, when we finally removed the wheels.......... the lines dun FIT..!!

ah.... haha..... now we need to custom-make a set for the car.......

next time ok?
