volkswagen / skoda 1.4 twin-charged ..... 160hp / 179 hp
volvo 1.6 turbo 180 hp
opel 1.6 turbo 192 hp

dun forget, the lighter the car the better is the overall performance ......

yes exactly.... it's all about money..... and we have all witnessed what money can create..... i.e. the most spectacular yas marina circuit .....

oh gosh, the size and scale of the venue is just awesome even when seen on TV..... i cant imagine if one is there personally........ it surely will be a humbling experience

just 20 mins ago... while on the road, i saw a new volkswagen scirocco and a no-longer-new golf gti mk v, one after another....

somehow the scirocco manages to make the golf looks porky, obese and overweight.... haha....

such is the rate of progress that things we used to love no longer are beautiful as before....

if everything goes to plan, i shd have a full set of steel braided brake lines for the car....

this evening we had to get one set of the stock rubber lines off the car for the workshop to custom make a replacement set.....

let's see if all could be done within 24 hours... haha....

more force-fed engines......

since almost everyone is into turbo-charging, what could differentiate one engine from the next..???

to make things simple, many potential owners will be looking at the power output i.e. horsepower and torque...

with this in mind, we should all pay attention to what alfa romeo is doing...... by adding a turbo charger to their new direct injection 1.8 litre petrol engine, they squeezed out 200 hp (very good but not class-leading) and 320 Nm (which i think is amazing..!!)....

in the wake of relative competition, dun forget that the mk 6 golf gti (2.0) is only achieving 280 Nm.......

watch for out the new alfas...... they are going to be a real catch...!!

1700 rpm......

that magic number is 1700 rpm........ cos the Golf gives you a super flat torque curve from that number onwards and ....that means ALMOST NO turbo lag.......

in comparison that 4B11T engine in the evo x makes 280 PS at 6,500rpm and 422Nm of torque at 3,500rpm...... while you get 211 PS at 5300 rpm and 280 Nm at 1700-5200 from the GTi.....

you just have to make sure you are in the right gear all the time if u choose the evo x..... if not the GTi will just run away in an instant.......

all for close to S$130,000....................

your choice..???

and whatever wear and tear items to maintain this 5.0 v10 twin-turbo charged 580 hp MONSTER......

i do hope they bring the R version in..... 265 hp is a NICEEEEEEEE thing to have haha..... since the regular version starts from close to S$90,000, the R version probably will be close to S$130,000??

192 hp from 1.6-litre is an amazing achievement for a road-going car.......

forget about the mini cooper s.... cos you pay so much more for less power...... 

this one is a killer, especially when it comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox...... 

but why didnt they throw in a twin-clutch semi-auto box? that will kill everything in its class...... even the uglier-than-this peugeot 207 Gti...... which is almost the same car dressed otherwise.... haha

do beware u need at least S$90 thousand for the OPC....... exciting yes and expensive too..... there's a price to pay for performance...... right?

if only more...

if volkswagen can squeeze 280 to 300 hp from its 2-litre engine, that will really be a wake-up call for the japanese......

right now both the evo x and the sti make 300 hp..... and the latest golf gti makes 211 bhp..... between 211 and 300, there is still a significant gap...... 

although the interim golf v50 makes close to 250 hp, the premium is perhaps too much for customers to come queueing for it....

moreover, the golf is still FWD....... and at the very limits of traction, AWD/4WD is still very much a strength.......

but i do understand the DSG is a potent weapon....... and coupled with auto-blip throttle and spanking new adaptive electronic damping, never never under-estimate the golf ......

so would you choose a golf gti or a rex sti....???

now i would sacrifice class and sophistication for a cheaper car..... would you??? 

even though you can get more horsepower for less money, would you??..... 

but you probably know that horsepower is not everything.....

volkswagen cars are expensive ...... especially in singapore........... here the are priced as higher-end executive cars..........



of all the models available, my fav is the GTI............ which recently underwent a facelift and minor revisions............... power has been bumped up to 210 hp from 200 hp...... i kinda prefer the new look........... a little more clean-cut perhaps.........

if given the choice, i will change the alloy wheels cos those are the ugliest part of the car.......



interior is sporty and classy.......... the flat bottomed steering wheel is a nice touch.......... although overall it has a dark and gloomy feel.......... can we have some sporty bits..???



rear is absolutely boring.......... except for the GTI badge and the twin pipes...........

if u have about S$120,000........ want at least 200 hp....... want only a continental car........ are lazy to shift gears all the time........... then pick this, cos it's fast, powerful and versatile........

i followed one through a challenging turn and it was really good......... (of cos that driver was good to make the car look good)...........

if not just get a subaru wrx sti........ :)
