any BANG interest..???

wow, it must have been quite awhile since i wrote about watches.... maybe the passion has been diluted or perhaps i was taking a break ...... and if you didnt know, right now is the SIHH season: where many manufactures launch new products..... many are technological breakthroughs or aesthetically interesting but not this one....

so there is the new alinghi KING POWER watch from hublot since AP and alinghi broke up.... and i find it BORINGGGGGGGGG as usual and the alinghi logo looks tacky at best.....

if you have yet to see any hublot king power watches, u should.... cos they are much much BIGGER than you can imagine... and still BIG in the bore factor....

the in-house factor....

someone posted a question in a watch forum: comparing the rolex daytona against the vacheron constantin overseas chronograph..... and wanted to know which is the better watch...

well.... for me, i'll pick the one with the in-house movement which is, the rolex daytona..... and what's more the daytona is cheaper ... and way better looking.....

what an irony, the watch with the in-house movement costs less..!!??

short-lived brawn watch....

remember this watch...??

now that mercedes have bought the team and brawn is no longer with us, there goes one of the shortest f1 team and timepiece marketing collaboration.....

BYE BYE...!!

confused dial....

wah....... the moment i saw the dial i felt giddy.......

and for your own safety e.g. while driving or working, it's better to stay away from this one.....

too messy too complicated and too confusing...........

if u can look past that dial, u may also notice the very unique lugs on this watch.... which i think is a nice touch of antiquity.... quite apt for this museum timepiece.....

hmmm but ultimately i cant find anything adoring ...

just say so....

yes indeed...

just say so and tell us the truth...

to have to get the CEO to admit the mistake is a big BOO BOO for tag heuer....

read more here.....

http://www.luxist.com/2009/12/09/tag-heuer-new-caliber-1887-watch-movement-snafu/

but in short, they "adopted" a seiko movement and marketed it as their "own"... and was found out by some keen-eyed people....

eekss....

i wasnt sure about this..... and i didnt know whether to laugh or cry..... but no matter what it is still a thousand times better than the graham ali baba jewelled edition.... maybe i should go down to cortina to catch a glimpse of this....

buy it only if u like the SAS, which stands for special air service...... the most famous of all special forces

a watch for the man....

yes the watch is made for robert kubica...... and i think it's looks pretty good for the price.....

for a start, certina watches have always been affordable.......

fortunately it's for the person not the team......

cos the team has said bye bye to formula 1......

welcome back.....!!

it surely must feel good to be back .....

so it's also my pleasure to say welcome back felipe..!!

and next year will be so tough with fernando alonso right beside him..... but looked at how he handled the pressure of racing alongside kimi raikkonen...... he's now true-blue multiple race winner himself....

notice the watch on his wrist? i wonder if this is the same richard mille rm011 he wore when he crashed at hungaroring.... if yes, isnt that a tough little beast of a watch as well haha....

brawn vs brains....

so here we see another formula1 and timepiece tie-up........... but as you probably know not every collaboration becomes a success.....

i think this might just become a misfit......

this evening i was at parkway.....

and while walking past a shop i saw the price for the casio edifice vettel SE.... $350.....

remember to bargain ok..??

i am sure it can go lower......

they tried da best.....

hmmmm

i think the tag-line for this singapore gp 2009 edition watch is "nothing else comes close to this ugly watch" .....

seriously guess and marc ecko can do better than this........

the lucky 10.....

oh gosh....... it's another LE edition but ...... this time there's abit of difference in the execution cos hey hey there are only 10 pieces..!!!

i am quite sure at press time, all 10 are already accounted for...... so the rest of us can only admire the picture..... or go for the regular edition.......

indeed over the years there have been many LE for the rm011...... of course there are some winners, in particular the singapore gp edition and the chronopassion black edition etc

in comparison with the rest, the le mans edition looks abit muted ....... and so the regular edition remains the best bet at the most reasonable price.....

patek sighting....

while browsing around the sonex booth at the CAT carnival... i spotted this ang mo who was wearing a patek 5960 chronograph in rose gold.....

although a little excited to see one in the wild, i resisted the temptation to let him know what a nice watch he was wearing..... cos he might thinking i was up to no good........

would you compliment a stranger on his choice of timepiece...???

always the monaco....

i have always thought of the monaco as one of tag's most beautiful watches...... and even though i am not a big tag fan, i have always harboured a secret liking for the monaco...... and if you can remember this model, the monza too,,,,,,

but other than sharing a similar case shape, the LS has nothing in common with the monaco of old....... instead it is brash, loud and very modern.... which then makes it perfectly suitable for the modern city dweller.....

however the launch pictures alone do not tell the whole story.... it may prove to be a surprise when the real thing comes to the stores......

making inROADs....

between orchard road and queen's road...... i think the latter sounds a little bit more atas (high-class)...... come on, it's about the fruit vs the queen, right..???

when it comes to names, i never consider AP as being creative and original ...... so using the locations of the boutiques is maybe only a matter of convenience......

for the followers of AP limited editions, they know the stream is endless anyway so this new model is no new surprise....... i reckon stretching the production to 100 pcs is the max they shd go..... for anymore would be considered as dumping (haha)....

in terms of weight, the orchard road is surely the winner as the HK-edition is made of titanium...... but in terms of significance, the queen's road is far too similar to the JBB (malaysian-edition)..... there are always more special limited editions and somehow i feel that THIS would never be ranked as the more important ones.....

feel free to disagree....

so many orchard road..???

there are only 100 pieces of AP ROO orchard road in the whole wide world...... hey but what and where the heck is orchard road..???

pretty simple, it's the name of THE very famous road here in singapore which is choked full of shopping malls ...... and the AP boutique is located at nowhere else but orchard road of cos....

ok let's not get carried away with the name and now back to the important issue.... since there are only 100 pieces manufactured for the boutique, you'd expected them to be scarce and hard to find..... remember what the ADs and boutique staff told you? "very difficult to get" they said.....

however, in recent weeks and months, i noticed that quite a few have sprouted out in used-goods dealers in singapore...... and many pieces are listed as Brand New In Box (BNIB), which means that the watches are in a almost-brand-new and unused condition.....i think the owners bought the watches most likely with the intention for flipping............ outside of singapore, there are a few pieces being offered in international watch forums ....

it's a pity really..... cos those that had wanted to get one at list price never had a chance......

more and more avmox 2 chronographs..????

WHATTTTTT???

another version of the JLC amvox 2 chronograph....?? they are not going to stop, are they?

after the original amvox 2, amvox 2 black titanium, amvox 2 dbs, amvox 2 dbs steel and now the amvox 2 racing............... ohhhhh and the list gets longer.....

i really hope they stop messing with it............. and i am no fan of an unlimited run of limited edition watches.......

mix and match AP style...

although this is a completely new model, it does seem vaguely familiar........

remember the AP ROO orchard road (limited to 100 pcs)????? cast in the grey metal of tantalum, the orchard road too has a rubber coated bezel........ now this new gstaad classic comes in another grey metal, the featherweight titanium..... and also has a rubber coated bezel..... now i find both are too close to comfort in terms of look .....

well if you know about royal oak offshore, then this is stale news..... cos mixing and matching is a tried and tested ploy when it comes to the ROO...... i.e. usually very successful.....

anyway for this year, the ROO to go for is the bubble bee..........

a wish for the blues....

by far one of the easily neglected brands locally, i have little confidence that CFB can overcome their lacklustre sales in a short time....and by presenting its latest models in nothing but blue, this is surely a move that is at best lateral in strategy.....

perhaps if one likes the busy dials, they might be tempted to take a second look...... right now there are too many tempting brands and models in the market which are fighting for the limited dollars.....

it's a TOUGH world ...... especially for watch manufactures right now......
